SUMMARY

TheOutpatient Mental Health Professional provides therapeutic services to children, families adolescents and adults in the main clinic or other satellitesettings. Using evidence based psychotherapeutic theories and practices, delivers individual, family and group therapy to clients and completesassessments on identified members in person or by telehealth if approved by OMHSAS. The Mental Health Professional has the ability to apply provides thorough and complete documentation in a manner necessary to meet established deadlines; and involves significant others in treatment process as deemed appropriate. The Outpatient Mental Health Professional must have a Master's degree and the ability to resolve crisis and conflict situations and develop positive relationships with clients. Funding for services provided by Outpatient Mental Health Professionals may come from billing private insurance companies orMedical Assistance or through contracts with the county.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

An Outpatient Mental Health Professional should be prepared to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide therapy and consultation services to clients and families in compliance with Chapter 5200 regulations governing outpatient psychiatric clinics.

  • Compile an individualized treatment plan for each client that includes counseling objectives and goals as well as a crisis plan. Meet with parent/guardian to review treatment plans as required.

  • Complete clinical notes on all therapy sessions. Prepare written documentation describing a client's progress in achieving treatment goals.

  • While maintaining compliance with HIPAA standards, develop cooperative relationships with community agencies that will facilitate treatment services provided to all clients. Communication and collaboration to facilitate integration of child-serving efforts put forth by the agency, a District, and providers working in other child-serving systems.

  • Deliver the required number of billable hours (as applicable).

  • Administer evidence-based interventions, assessments, and outcome measurements to drive treatment. 

  • Attend individual andgroup supervision as required.

  • Prepare progress reports, court summaries, attend court hearings, and/or conduct progress review meetings with referring agencies as needed.

  • Perform other special projects or duties as requested by the Supervisor, Regional Director, Chief Operations Officer or Chief Executive Officer.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduatedegree in a clinical field issued by an accredited educational institution that included a clinical practicum.

  • Licensure is preferred and required in some areas; i.e.Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage & Family Mental Health Professional.

  • Specialized learning in Resiliency & Trauma.

  • Specialized learning in evidence-based treatment interventions.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Three years of experience working with children, adolescents and their families in a clinical setting is preferred. 

SKILLS

Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to develop effective and meaningful relationships with clients. Must be able to remain calm in a crisis situation, identify underlying causes of problem situations, resolve conflicts, and de-escalate potentially explosive situations. Must be a team player.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work setting is anoutpatient clinic building or satellite location. Clientele may at times be verbally or physically abusive.
